How to organise your hallway
Let's learn how to organise your hallway! This is a great organising "starter" project. It is not difficult. And you'll see the benefit of your organising efforts multiple times a day. This in turn is reinforcing the idea that yes, you can get organised. It does requires some thinking and maybe some “hardware” storage solutions or a piece of furniture. However, once it is set up your organised. The hallway is the entry to an organised life.
What lives in your hallway?
Depending on the flow of your home you want to question what should "live" in the hallway. What should not go any further that the first room in the house. Simply because you mainly need this item when you are out and about.
For us it is:
Some jackets that we currently use – meaning we need a clothes to stand.
Keys, wallets and other small items we need to take with us when we leave the house.
A few nice pieces of “welcome home art”
which means it is also very easy to dump paperwork and unrelated things on here.
Other items that often live in the hallway
Shoes - In our home they are left downstairs on the shoe rack
Paperwork - for us this moves onto the office
Lunches - they come and go straight to the kitchen after school or work
School bags - go from the kitchen to the kids' room.
You could easily have a spot for bags in the hallway.
Things can change on the season and will depend on the amount of people you have in your house.
Introducing the launch pad as the key way to organise your hallway
The launchpad is a piece of furniture in the hallway. It is a place in which you keep your keys, wallet, potentially your bag, jacket, and shoes. Basically any essential item you need to launch into your day.
Very early on in my organising journey (hence the old photo above), I set up a launchpad. This transformed my dining table and living room. As it gave a home for all the items that come in and out of the house all the time. Including keys, shoes and handbags which at that time used to be scattered around the living room.
