Creating space

This week I will talk about creating space where there was none before. Good organisers find creative solutions and utilise space to the max. There are whole books written about living in small spaces or units as a significant amount of people feel that their space is not big enough or they truly live in a small house or unit. Others think that if they just had some more wardrobe space, things will be fine. The first suggestion with all of this will always be to cull the excess, the other part is creating more space.

Bespoke build wardrobe

Recently I have called a builder in, to do a range of jobs in our home. We are getting a few hanging rods installed and are adding more shelving to existing wardrobes. All of this will help a lot in regards to some of the day-to-day clutter in our house. It will provide easy, accessible homes for some of our items. For example, one of the rods will collect the jackets as we come in the house - preventing them from being spread across our living spaces. The shelving and another rod will take some of our clothes giving items a little more space to breathe and making it overall easier to organise our clothes.

I think the cost of getting the builder to do some jobs will be an investment in the long term as things will be easier accessible, more streamlined and it will make it easier to create homes for those items that otherwise would find their final resting place in the living room or on the floor. If you would like to create space without getting someone in or without changing wardrobes, you could place a bookcase in your wardrobe and have hanging hooks from the doors. They are easy to get from the shops, they utilise space and could really make a big difference in getting your living areas more organised.
