Become a “handbag organiser”
As a handbag organiser, we First Declutter
Declutter your handbag as soon as you walk in the door
I suggest that when you get home, you use this momentum. A handbag organiser would immediately unpack their bag so it is never cluttered and full of irrelevant stuff. I guess it, when we are out and about, it's so easy to take clutter and junk inside the house without realising it. Think about the small items you purchase. Or all the pesky receipts you need for only a short while after the purchase, these are a handbag organiser’s nightmare get rid of it or put the items in the right place often and quickly.
Handbag organisers Declutter their handbag in more detail at least once a week.
In the video, I’m showing you my bag which I bought the day before. In theory, there shouldn't be anything there. But I was surprised how quickly it builds up. If possible, make organising your handbag a habit and declutter it at least once or twice a week. Maybe you have only a few core items in the bag that you need to take all the time.
A handbag organiser will declutter after any training or conferences
It's super important to clear things up when you come back from workshops or conferences. Everyone means really well, and they give you all these items, pieces of paper, promotional mugs /pens, etc. But really, they end up being cluttered often the minute they get into your house.
It was quite common when I helped people organise in their homes. To enter rooms and find a large pile of bags with “stuff in it”. As these things are covered by the bags. It is really hard for our brain to make sense of what was in it. Having "stuff in bags" will make it impossible to group items. You need to take all items out of the bags. Start to put things in groupings before you can organise it. If you use the techniques of a handbag organiser, you will save yourself time over the long term. Small actions prevent you from having to do a massive organising and decluttering session through your bags in the future.
A handbag organiser not only declutters they also Organise their handbag
It is important to create clear access to what is in your handbag. Before you can do this. You need to know what you have in your handbag and why you are lugging it around.
A handbag organiser asks: What do I have in my handbag and why?
Once you completed the decluttering process of your handbag, decide if you will use the same bag tomorrow. You can opt to take everything out overnight (at a predetermined spot), or you can transfer your content to another bag. They both have pros and cons. One negative is always using the same bag. Is that clutter builds in the bag and you need to be more vigilant.
In the video, I am using the same bag tomorrow. When putting items back, I suggest you always have the same spot for your keys and other items. For me, these are my folders and laptop at the back. My wallet, keys, and access cards are in the sections (or pouch before).
Once you have got a system going. You can declutter your handbag in less than 5 minutes and get that lovely feeling of being organised for tomorrow. You’ll look fabulous and fashionable, having everything you need at your fingertips.

Important things I do as a “handbag organiser” are:
I will always have folders with me. Folders help me think and indicate a particular topic or focus in my professional life. With colored folders, I can indicate what is work-study or a special project. If I have loose notes or receipts of things, I’ll review them and, if possible, bin them. The life cycle of receipts is short. You either need to make notes, update the calendar or the budget and then we can dispose of the piece of paper.
My glasses if I want to be able to see the work I am doing. I have glasses throughout the house where I read and a set of them in my bag.
Keys are an important item in a bag. However, once you arrive home the keys should be going to a specified key compartment. A place where the keys can “live” when you are at home. In a lot of my bags, I have a ring so I can easily attach my keys to clear spots in the bag.
My laptop, when working
My wallet - the wallet itself can become cluttered. If I've got receipts, I try every night to do my online banking/budget. It freaks me out if I don't know what I spend. And how much is in my budget for the days ahead. For receipts like keys. I have a spot in the house, so I will take them to my desk.
Small plastic sleeve - If I go on a work trip, I sometimes take a plastic sleeve or envelope with me. Receipts will be placed in this spot, I’ll review them at home, claim the receipts and file for tax time. It is a simple, sequential process that works from the minute you get the receipt to the time you file it for tax.
Phone, I am (unfortunately) a product of my time. As time goes on, it is starting to replace the wallet more and more. Having a clear pocket for your phone in the handbag makes it easy.
Lightweight shopping bags: I like to carry 2 or 3 in my handbag. The amount of times it saves me from having to opt for plastic bags in the shops or supermarket is amazing. Even though these are small acts, they add to the social responsibility I try to practice as often as possible. Every small action reduces the impact on the environment, even if it is by a fraction.
