How to use a label maker

This will be a short and easy topic, how to use a label maker. It is however an important skill as a professional organiser and any self-respecting organiser will definitely have a label maker. I don’t suggest you use a label maker for each organising project you do. That would be tedious and a waste of time and effort. Labels and label makers however do come in handy for example whilst doing your paperwork or organising the kitchen. I think it is a worthwhile investment.

My choice of label maker

I have tried different label makers and have a clear favourite the Brother Label maker, it is easy to use. This label maker is slightly more expensive to buy. However, when you calculate the cost per label with the cost of the tape cartridges, it comes out cheaper.

When I create labels:

Three folders with printed labels

I stick to

  • Using only of two sizes label with (6mm and 12 mm)

  • One font

  • Only black on white

  • Not using pretty letters, underlining etc.

  • Typing out a number of labels at once so I prevent wasting tape at the beginning and end of each label.

The reason I do this is because I want it to be super easy next time I have to add a label and at $25,- + dollar a tape I don’t want to waste it on white space for each label. Often this white space needs to be trimmed anyway as your label is otherwise too long.

  • replace or change the cartridge

  • cut the label once it has come out

the video shows how:

  • the label comes out

where:
