Strategies to Achieve Goals Through Organised Goal Setting
It's that time of the year again – New Year's resolutions are in full swing. If you're the type to set resolutions, you might be nodding your head in agreement when I say that the intentions are noble, but the execution can be challenging. As an organiser, I understand the pitfalls of setting unrealistic goals, which often lead to unnecessary stress and eventual failure. This blog post will explore the do's and don'ts of organised goal setting, offering practical advice to make your aspirations a reality.
Do Set Small, Realistic Goals
Instead of reaching for lofty ideals that may be impractical given your daily commitments, opt for small, achievable goals. These are more likely to be sustained throughout the year, even during hectic periods. If you get 1% better every day you would have improved more than 300% in a year. Consider goals that align with both your busy and quiet times, ensuring flexibility in your plan.
Don't Overcommit to Daily Tasks
Avoid committing to daily organising tasks that may become overwhelming. Daily commitments can create unnecessary pressure and set you up for disappointment. Instead, aim for consistency over intensity, allowing yourself room for growth without the added stress of daily obligations.
Do Create Sustainable Plans
Take being organised as an example. Develop a sustainable plan that aligns with your lifestyle. For instance, establish tidy-up habits before leaving for work or dedicate an hour or two each weekend to decluttering with a clear plan and space in mind. Alternatively, consider seeking outside help for tasks like cleaning or food preparation during busy periods.
Don't Rely Solely on Intentions
Intentions alone won't propel you towards your goals. Action is key. Rather than intending to do something, focus on creating actionable steps. Commit to actions that you can realistically incorporate into your routine, ensuring that each step takes you closer to your desired outcome. Also make sure that each step has a reward, this could be a cup of tea or reading a magazine. It is important to link decluttering and organising to something positive.
Think Beyond the Surface
Consider viewing your goals from a higher perspective. Much like the concept of being "the best person you can be," envision the best version of yourself. If being fit or organised contributes to this vision, fantastic! The key is to break down this overarching goal into manageable steps that align with your daily or weekly life.
As we embark on this journey of organised goal setting, remember that perfection is not the goal. Strive to be the best version of yourself every day, taking practical steps that align with your ultimate objectives. Whether it's fitness, organisation, or any other aspiration, success lies in the consistency of your efforts. So, this New Year, make a resolution that focuses on progress, not perfection – and watch as your organised goals become a sustainable reality. Wishing you a successful and fulfilling year ahead!
