The Art of Organising: Unlocking the Power of Labels for a Clutter-Free Life

This week, we're diving into the world of labels. Labels may seem like a small detail, but trust me, they can make a world of difference in your journey to a more organised and stress-free life. In this post, we'll explore the transformative power of labels and how they can bring an extra layer of control and order to your surroundings.

Tips for Effective Labelling:

Now that you're intrigued by the labelling magic, here are some practical tips to get you started on your own labelling journey.

Invest in a Quality label Maker:

Choose a reliable label maker with black-on-white plastic labels. My preferred label maker for years has been the Brother P-Touch. These labels stick well, are waterproof, and can be easily removed when needed, they are there for perfect for items that may undergo changes over time.

I have used this label maker for:

Paper files, Fridge organising, the pantry, including spices and some cupboard or long-term storage like photo and memory boxes.

Computer-Connected Label Maker:

Consider getting another label maker that connects to your computer and uses paper-based address labels. These are ideal for creating bigger name tags, key tags, and even sending out personalised postcards. The flexibility to change, correct, or add to labels is a game-changer, especially as your collection grows.

In the past I used this label maker for:

Postcards, regular mail and big boards. The set up can be a little fiddly but as long as you use it often enough it is a good time investment.

Laminated pieces of paper

Simply write you label of a white laminated pieces of paper with a whiteboard marker, stick some blue tack on the back and you can move labels and change them easily.

I am currently using these:

In the garage, we tidy up the garage about once a year. These labels are nice big and easy to change around, perfect in the garage without making things perfect (I just have to try and write neatly).

The Evolution of My Labelling Journey.

When I first started my organising journey, the sight of meticulously labelled items seemed like a daunting task. However, over the years, I've come to appreciate the magic of labels. It's not just about knowing where things belong; it's about creating a system that others can easily follow. Let me share some recent labelling adventures that have truly enhanced my daily life.

Back to School Bliss:

As the "back to school" season rolled around, I embarked on a labelling spree. Magazine stands with labelled folders for reading, writing, and math assignments have become a game-changer. The kids now have designated spaces for their schoolwork, making it easier for them (and me) to stay organised.

I have also purchased ‘stuck on you’ labels when the kids were small you get plenty and can stick labels on everything they take to (pre-) school with an increased chance of getting it back.

Fridge Harmony:

Moving to the heart of the home – the fridge. Three differently labelled snack boxes for crunch and sip, home snacks, and extra snacks have simplified my life. A quick glance tells me if we're running low on supplies, saving time and reducing food waste.

In conclusion, labelling is not just a trend; it's a significant step forward in your organising journey. The benefits extend beyond personal convenience, reaching the entire household or workplace. So, if you haven't embraced the power of labels yet, why not start this week? You'll be amazed at the positive impact it can have on your daily life. Here's to a more organised and stress-free you!
