Can you organise, declutter and be an environmentalist?

Most of us agree that being an environmentalist is a good thing. Recently I was thinking that organisation and being an environmentalist might actually go hand in hand in some cases.

Grass and rock circles in nature admits mountains

Decluttering

You see, after looking at all the things that you don’t need and want, and disposing of them accordingly to a second-hand shop or recycling services where possible.

Organising

You start to see what you bring in your house. Even though part of me enjoys minimalism we all need things to live and survive in the 21st century, a time a highly materialistic place.

Avoid duplication

Being organised, however, makes you tone it down a bit, as you know what you have

Avoid impulse buying

you questions, whether you have space to keep something else

Buy quality

Another thing I believe is when you buy - buy, pick good quality and spend if need be some good money on the item you are after. Why? Well, when you buy quality, you tend to have something nice that will last you for an extensive amount of time, this is environmentally (and financially) much better than buying cheap inferior items that will need to be replaced. This goes for clothes, bags, and furniture as well as cleaning items and IT equipment, all the basic things that make life, in this time and place so comfortable and exciting.

We live in a world of abundance; of items, shops, things to do and buy. It might be worthwhile to select a few things and enjoy them. Take stock of what you have and your environmental food print with the items you own and buy.

Recently I read this really interesting book; Double Entry by Jane Gleeson-white about the past and future of account stating that we need to take our environmental impact more seriously and account for that. Maybe organising, controlled spending on items we enjoy, might help us now, our bank balance and the future of our world.

The more you learn to organise and declutter the less your environmental impact will be
