Declutter and Organise with an environmental focus
In a recent article, we spoke about different mentalities through generations and our focus on the environment. The environment is something close to my heart.
Let’s do more than our bit with an organised environmental focus
As we declutter and organise our lives we could potentially do more than our bit for our environment. How? Well once you have decluttered your spaces, you are much more aware of what you bring into them. Hopefully, it will reduce the amount you bring into your space and if you do bring more things into your work and living spaces, you might let go of older items simultaneously.
Declutter often, buy rarely, and buy good quality
For example; free those books before they are dated, give someone that movie you enjoyed, and donate furniture that no longer suits your needs. The faster you declutter, the more useful the item will be for someone else.
When you buy - buy well, spend some money and buy good quality. This is sometimes harder said than done with for example clothes, but with furniture, white goods, appliances, and kitchen items purchasing good quality items is better than buying the same item three times from a lesser quality. By the time you add up your total cost and your environmental footprint, the more expensive item might actually be less expensive in the long run.
Declutter with an environmental focus
Another thing which is of course very important when decluttering is to dispose of items correctly where possible. For example, batteries and old mobiles are nowadays collected at many of the main shops we visit regularly. Some very innovative ideas are happening to dispose of mattresses, even old bras get collected and reused. The moral of the story is to buy purposefully, buy well, and dispose of items correctly and regularly. If you dispose of things in a timely fashion they can still be of use to someone else, rather than gathering dust and cluttering up your environment and your mind. Whilst you doing this, being and acting mindfully in relation to your possessions, it could slowly make a more positive contribution to the environment in general.
