Storage boxes and organisation
Do you think storage boxes when you think about organising? You could be on the right track, however, storage boxes do not always equate to being organised. If used wrong boxes can actually add to the clutter. Why? Well you always first need to look at a space, sort through the things that you do not want to keep or belong in that spot and then you are left with items that might store better in a box. We need to however ask some questions before we go out and buy storage boxes like; what type, what size and how many do we need?
Some guidelines on storage boxes and organisation
For larger items you most likely want to skip the lids (unless it is for storage) “Throw as we go” is a great way to tidy the house and a box without a lid allows for this style of maintaining clear spaces.
Always go for rectangular or square-shaped boxes. Round shapes are a waste of space and hard to place in cupboards etc.
Measure which size you need, and check for height, width, and depth. Often one of those three measurements is the most important, otherwise, your new box doesn’t fit in the place you have.
Clear plastic might be easiest when starting. Colourful boxes could look nice but be careful. You do not want to make your organised space look like a candy store or artist dwelling. Use colourful boxes to highlight and accentuate, in case of doubt go with the more basic colours.
Buy boxes from shops around the corner from where you live, you don’t want to have beautiful storage boxes only to find you are too short and cannot find matching boxes.
Wicker baskets are nice, but do keep in mind they need more dusting and maintenance than other boxes.
