Your organising Goals

If you read these blogs regularly, you will know that organising is not only about the spaces. It is about our mind, our thinking, and the things we do to get organised. This week we are extending this idea even further. You see, you can have your places beautiful, you can be incredibly productive, and yet, somehow, something is still missing. I have been ticking off my digital to-do lists with a vengeance lately but something was amiss.

Upon reflection it was blatantly clear - just doing tasks doesn't mean you do the important things or that you are achieving goals. Talking about goals what are our goals?

Goal setting

This process let me to search for information on goal setting. As all the organising, efficiencies and tasks management systems in the world won't be of any use in the long term unless you achieve goals that are important to you. In my search, I have found this interesting software called goals on track.

If you are more paper-based based of course you can use paper. I go through phases between paper and digital tools. For me, paper is a creative medium nice to make visions boards with lovely imagery. The benefit of digital means it is portable and easy to change.

Key goals setting points

For me it is important:

  • that it has visuals

  • it asks why you want to achieve the goal

  • breaks it down into habits that need to be established

  • tasks that need to be completed

  • useful if it keeps a visual reminder of the goal we want to achieve.

An organised goal

Let’s translate all of this to an organising goal.

Say your goal is having a clean/clear kitchen:

  • The goal could be a nice picture of a; kitchen a beautiful image that is not too different from your kitchen.

  • Your reason for this goal might be to have a space to cook and entertain.

  • A new habit would be to wash dishes as they come in, a task would be to go through the first cupboard 1,

  • then cupboard 2 and declutter them one by one.

  • The software will keep track of your due date and achievements if you stick to this.

You will not only be busy you will be achieving your goals as well.
